Mooru curry

Moru curry / Moru kachiyathu / Spiced buttermilk is an easy buttermilk recipe that goes well with rice.

Serves ~ 2 adults

Ingredients

Thick curd ~ 1 cup
Mustard seeds / Kaduku ~ 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds / Jeerakam ~ 1/4 tsp
Fenugreek seeds / Uluva ~ 1/4 tsp ( Optional )
Dry red chilies / Unakka mulaku ~ 2 nos
Curry leaves ~ 1 stem
Fenugreek powder / Uluva podi ~ 1/8 tsp
Turmeric powder ~ 1/2 tsp
Boiled water ~ 1/2 to 3/4 cups
Salt to taste
Oil ~ 1-2 tbsp

Method

  • First beat the curd using a fork/spoon by adding enough water.
  • Then heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and when it starts to crackle, add dry red chilies, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and curry leaves. Then add thinly sliced shallots and saute till shallots become light brown in color. Then remove the pan from the flame and add fenugreek powder and turmeric powder and fry for couple of seconds.
  • Finally add the beaten curd along with enough salt and mix it nicely. Then keep it in a low flame till it becomes warm. Do make sure not to boil the buttermilk, we have to remove it from the flame before it starts boiling.

Enjoy with some hot rice...:)

Cheers!!

Jisha
